• Understand:  Computers use electromagnets and magnetic sensors to sample and store data and also to control devices in the outside world, such as loudspeakers, alarm systems, and robots.

• Know:  These terms:  permanent magnet, electromagnet, superconductor, electric motor, relay, levitation, sensor, exoskeleton, wearable computers.

• Do:  Explain how data is stored on a magnetizable surface in a hard drive, and how magnets also spin the disc platter and move the read/write heads.

 

• Understand:  Crime involves evil acts which are punishable by law.  Computers may provide the means of committing crimes, while intentional misuse of computers and networks can itself be a crime.

• Know:  These terms:  cybercrime, cyberwarfare, malware, fraud, identity theft, Internet scam, phishing, cyberbullying, computer forensics, misdemeanor, felony, spoofing.

• Do:  List several internet scams or crimes directly targeted at consumers.
